The name brings together Carla, after our founder’s mother, and Riva, her grandmother’s maiden name. Our appreciation of botanicals also comes from family traditions of recognising the soothing and therapeutic qualities of wildflowers and herbs.
Waterless skincare means creating a formulation without adding water as an ingredient.
Our Bakuchiol Face Oil is an oil-based, waterless formulation made with bakuchiol and a blend of carefully selected botanical oils and extracts.
By creating a concentrated oil formulation, there is no need to add water simply as a base ingredient.
Bakuchiol is a plant-derived skincare ingredient that has become popular as a botanical alternative to retinol.
It is valued in skincare for its age-defying and skin-smoothing properties, without being a retinoid itself.

Our Bakuchiol Face Oil contains 4% bakuchiol.
We chose a 4% concentration because we wanted bakuchiol to be a meaningful part of the formulation rather than simply an added ingredient.
The rest of the formula brings together a considered blend of botanical oils and extracts selected to complement the bakuchiol and leave the skin feeling nourished and cared for.
Our formula combines 4% bakuchiol with a blend of botanical oils and extracts, including squalane, rosehip oil, marula oil, prickly pear, meadowfoam, jojoba, olive, evening primrose, rose geranium, argan, hemp and pomegranate, alongside vitamin E and rosemary extract.

We chose aluminium for our bottle because it is lightweight, durable and recyclable.
Your first Carla Riva purchase includes the aluminium bottle and eyedropper as a set.
When your bottle is empty, simply purchase a Carla Riva refill. Transfer the eyedropper from your original bottle to the refill bottle and continue using it.
Once you have finished with the bottle, empty and clean it according to your local recycling requirements.
Add the cap from your refill bottle to the empty aluminium bottle and place them together in your recycling where aluminium is accepted.
You can recycle them with or without the Carla Riva storage tin

The tin is designed to be kept and reused rather than treated as disposable packaging.
It can be used for storing small personal items, keepsakes or other non-food items.
